Green Monster Me!!!

I made a decision this weekend: I was ready to try a Green Monster and thus I needed to by spinach. When I was cleaning it on Sunday night in preparation for Monday evening, my husband and mother-in-law innocently asked me if I was going to make a salad with it. Little did they know the answer that was coming to them: "No, I am going to make a smoothie!" Everyone in the room was baffled...

I was waiting for the work day on Monday to end just so I could get home and try this new concoction out. In went the flax seed, spinach, small banana, 1/2 a pear, 1 kiwi, some blueberries, some pomegranate, 1/2 scoop of vanilla protein powder, 1 container natural yogurt and some fat-free milk.

The blender had a hard time at first trying to blend the spinach. I read somewhere online that it was better to put the spinach at the bottom so that the heavier ingredients weighted it down when blending. But my machine needed some milk and heavier items to get it going before it could suck down all that spinach.

But alas, it finally finished and the Chilean Green Monster was ready. I took Angela's advice and served it in the fanciest glasses we have (newly acquired wine glasses from the Cousiño Macul vineyard since the old ones broke in the earthquake). At first, I just served one glass for me, but then Christian said he wanted to try it too. So two wine glasses filled with the Green Monster. I made him try it first and lo and behold, he liked it! Holy cow....is he trying to give me a heart attack before I even get to try mine?!?!!??!

Bottoms up......

Delicious!

Thanks Angela for the inspiration to make a Green Monster. When I came across your blog a few months ago, I thought the GMs were strange and they did not sound appetizing at all. But now, now I understand. Can't wait until my next GM!!!!
